Additional Information

When it comes to online shopping the Chinese are primarily motivated by convenience and savings. For this reason it should come as no surprise that Chinese shoppers look for sites that offer free shipping. They are also concerned with financial security and will look for sites with secure payment options. The preferred payment option in China is Alipay.

There are some interesting cultural things to note that can give you an advantage as well. Gifts are often wrapped in red, a symbol of luck. You can offer red packaging for customers if you are selling to the Chinese market. Just be sure to avoid yellow packaging, a gift wrapped in yellow with black writing is only for the dead.

Also note that the Chinese ecommerce market is very large, but a small percentage is purchased from stores abroad. This makes China a tough market to crack.
