If you’re a regular around here you may have noticed us mention something called Talking Shop. That would be the Smile Rewards newsletter where we share stories and lessons learned from seasoned entrepreneurs and experts to help small businesses grow sustainably.

We sat down with Larry Galante, Smile Rewards’ Growth Marketing Manager who is the one pulling all the strings to get Talking Shop into your inbox each month. Larry shared his favorite memories from the businesses featured, as well as what’s in store for Talking Shop.

What is Talking Shop?

Talking Shop is Smile Rewards’ newsletter focused on sharing entrepreneurs’ stories. 

Talking Shop is the official Smile.io newsletter where we dive deep into ecommerce topics and share practical insights from small business owners. Each month we chat with amazing entrepreneurs from around the globe and share their stories. With over 100,000 merchants using Smile.io on their ecommerce websites, we promise there’s no shortage of unique brands to learn from.

In each issue of Talking Shop, you can expect tips and tricks from the business owner, an inside scoop on their brand’s story, and some relevant resources from the Smile.io blog! And don’t worry, we promise not to spam your inbox. We share one issue a month, jam-packed with inspirational content and direct quotes.

Why we created Talking Shop

We launched Talking Shop in March 2022 to share our merchants’ stories with as many people as possible. Let us give you a quick rundown of the details.

Each month, Talking Shop features a new ecommerce expert.

Who is the audience? You, your brother, that barista you really like. In short, anyone who’s interested in getting a behind-the-scenes look at how ecommerce businesses operate. If you’re a small business owner, you’ll find tons of valuable tips and tricks and if you’re an avid online shopper, you can discover amazing small businesses to support. Talking Shop is for all small biz supporters.

What is the goal? Talking Shop aims to be a resource for small business owners and a place to highlight ecommerce brands. We’re all about focusing on entrepreneurial education and championing brands. Here at Smile.io, we’re lucky enough to talk to thousands of amazing ecommerce entrepreneurs each year. Talking Shop is our way of sharing their stories with you!

What’s the format? Each newsletter begins with a brief introduction to the brand and owner, followed by their three top tips for other small business owners. Then we get into it with a deep dive focused on a specific ecommerce-related topic like influencer marketing or customer acquisition. We’ll share direct quotes from the founder, as well as Smile.io’s advice on the subject. We wrap it all up with some links to Smile resources from the blog or Help Docs and a video from the brand or Smile! It sounds like a lot but we know you’re busy, so we promise it’ll be less than a 5-minute read.
